Wonderland Cake by Terrauh Wonderland Cake by Terrauh
My first attempt at edible art. I made this cake for my best friend's birthday this week. She loves Alice in Wonderland. I haven't made a fancy cake but one other time and that was about 12 years ago, so forgive the crudeness of it, but I tried my best!

Everything is edible but the flowers. I bought rolled fondant and coloring and made the pieces for it. the cake is white with confetti sprinkles inside. Buttercream holds it together, and then some homemade fondant glaze for the texture on top of the buttercream.

This looks really good especially for your 1st/2nd time.
Constructive Criticism: I would suggest using fondant instead of buttercream to cover the cake and then put all the decorations on top. It just makes the cake look more refined and neater. It looks excellent though. Job well done :pat:
I hope I don't sound mean!

Thanks, and no problem, this was actually my first cake ever a few years back, so I am a lot more skilled with fondant now :) I still think it tastes better without the fondant, but you really can't beat it for looks and design.

Yeah, it does taste better without fondant, and as you just said the presentation is excellent with the fondant. I watch a lot of Ace of Cakes and I got inspired by that and also my nan used to be a cake decorator. So every now and then I make small cakes for fun. Fondant is also sometimes quite hard to perfect though. Trying to get it without air bubbles or cracks and just the right size and thickness! :D

P.S. Have you ever seen or read The Hunger Games?

:) Haven't seen or read Hunger Games yet. It takes me a while to get to new book series because reading time always takes away from painting time.

Yeah, it does. It takes away from my drawing and photography time :D
But when you have spare time, I would recommend reading The Hunger Games. It is a really great series. Well, I loved it anyway. It may not be your cup of tea. :)

I hope when I start making cakes that I can have such a natural knack as you! This looks so professional, I would never believe it's your 2nd try!

Yeah, it actually was my first "official" try on this one since the only one before was made about 13 years ago.

That's incredible. I can't imagine how amazing your work will be with more practice, when you're already so amazing! That's very lucky. haha
